The New Orleans Saints have been no stranger to injuries this season. They went into their Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos with several players, including at least 10 key starters, out with injury. Now, another impact player has been added to the list.
Saints starting cornerback Paulson Adebo suffered an injury during the second quarter of their game against the Denver Broncos. After making a tackle on defense, Adebo remained on the ground for an extended period of time being evaluated by medical staff.
He was placed in a vacuum splint and eventually carted off the field. Adebo leads the Saints defense in interceptions with three and was one of the NFL’s most targeted players in coverage. In turn, he led the NFL in forced incompletions (10) as well, per Pro Football Focus. His penalties have been the negative narrative around his play thus far this season, but he made several impact plays for the team, getting the ball back in the hands of the offense.
In his place, rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry will line up opposite starting cornerback Marshon Lattimore. McKinstry has seen some action already this season as Lattimore missed the Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Now, he may end up being the starter for an extended period of time.
The Saints are getting a look at several rookies in this game on the offensive side, and now will see some young contributions on defense as well. The team is already without several starters: safety Will Harris Jr., linebacker Pete Werner and defensive tackle Khalen Saunders.
