Saints to Work Out XFL Wide Receiver

Wide receiver was an important position to watch for the New Orleans Saints this season.

Top wideouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed have long been locks at the position. However, it took training camp to figure out just where the team would go behind that duo and free agent addition Cedrick Wilson Jr.

Ultimately, the Saints settled in a wideout room that includes six names. The team solidified second-year draft pick  A.T. Perry, this year’s draft pick Bub Means and undrafted rookie Mason Tipton on the active roster. Then, they rounded out the group with Kevin Austin Jr. and Equanimeous St. Brown on the practice squad.

However, New Orleans is still looking to potentially jostle the position. Per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Saints will host former XFL star wideout Jahcour Pearson for a workout.

The 5-foot-8 Florida native lead the XFL in receiving in 2023. He finished that season with 60 catches, 670 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions.

In 2024, Pearson landed with the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks. After spending some time in the team’s Injured Reserve list, he returned to the playing field, catching 21 of his targets for 167 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Pearson spent his college years with Western Kentucky and Ole Miss. He was an All-Conference USA player with Western Kentucky in 2019 and did not see much action after transferring in 2021. Pearson also lacks a wealth of special teams experience beyond his freshman season in 2017, but he has spent a lot of time both in the slot and out wide. His 4.42 40 time (from his Ole Miss Pro Day) will be appealing.

Pearson’s workout may not result in a contract, but it does show that the Saints are still tinkering with their roster and looking to continue refining the group at wide receiver.
