Saints re-sign veteran DB Ugo Amadi

NEW ORLEANS — It was a busy Monday afternoon for the New Orleans Saints who not only introduced last week’s return of wide receiver Brandin Cooks and announcing the signing of new offensive lineman Dillon Radunz, but also the return of a key depth piece and special teams contributor for 2025.
The Saints announced that they have agreed to a one-year deal with defensive back and core special teamer Ugo Amadi.
Amadi will enter his eighth NFL season, his third with the Saints this year. While he will have to fight for his spot on the 53-man roster, he has a step on many of the others that might compete in the secondary. His familiarity with the organization and his special teams acumen give him a leg up.
The 27-year-old safety has filled several roles and responsibilities on special teams and has done so with new special teams coordinator Phil Galiano watching along. The two have worked together in New Orleans under former coordinator and interim head coach Darren Rizzi for the last two seasons. Galiano’s familiarity with and trust in Amadi will be key to him continuing with the team either on the active roster or as a practice squad member.
His other path will come from backing up the slot. Amadi saw five starts near the end of the season as starting slot cornerback Alontae Taylor shifted outside after 2017 first-round corner Marshon Lattimore was traded to Washington. While there, he was tested in coverage, but came up with some big plays in opposing backfields as well.
Amadi finished 2024 with 65 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, two hits on the quarterback, seven passes defended and a pair of sacks.
