Brian Kelly has insisted on prioritizing the tight end position throughout his coaching career.
Saturday Kelly’s Tigers added a second tight end to the class of 2025, Mike Tyler. The Columbia, SC, native stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 230 lbs. He’s rated a consensus three-star recruit. LSU beat out Duke and West Virginia for Tyler’s pledge.
Tyler’s uncle is former NC State defensive end Mike Jones, who went on to become the No. 32 overall pick to the Phoenix Cardinals in 1991 NFL Draft.
As a junior, Tyler made 33 catches for 543 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 16.4 yards per catch. He also stars on the basketball court for Hammond School.
LSU’s class now has 23 commitments and ranks third in the country by both 247Sports and On3. Tyler joins JD LaFluer from Sulfer to form a solid duo of tight end prospects. After Mac Markway’s departure in the middle of Fall Camp, the Tigers have just three scholarship tight ends on the roster.
Mason Taylor, the starter at the position, is a potential NFL Draft candidate following the season. That could potentially leave just sophomore Ka’Morreun Pimpton and true freshman Trey’Dez Green on the roster.
