EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — After an eventful week of injuries for the New York Giants, one of their stars is set to take the field against the New Orleans Saints. Wide receiver Malik Nabers was not among the Giants’ inactives Sunday morning, meaning that he will be active against New Orleans.
With 740 receiving yards and 75 receptions, the LSU product leads the team in both categories. His three receiving touchdowns leads the club as well. Nabers has not had a 100 yard receiving day nor a touchdown catch since the Giants’ Sept. 22 Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns.
With the Saints passing’ defense susceptible to explosive plays, Nabers could change that trend this week. However, he is battling both a hip flexor and groin injury.
Nabers lines up on both sides of the formation at wide receiver, spending 38 percent of snaps on the offensive left side with 41 percent coming from the right perimeter. That means he will draw the coverage of both rookie cornerback and former SEC opponent Kool-Aid McKinstry as well as slot corner turned boundary defender Alontae Taylor.
The wideout may be managing injuries, but he will still find ways to test the Saints’ defense. This could be a big confidence-builder for the New Orleans secondary or potentially be a thorn in their side.
