LSU’s starting quarterback will return for another season.

As NFL Draft declarations and transfer portal entrant numbers swell by the day, Garrett Nussmeier announced he’s returning to LSU for a fifth year.
In his first season as a starter, Nussmeier finished sixth in the nation and second in the SEC in passing yards with 3739, just 37 yards shy of Jayden Daniels’s Heisman season a year ago. Should Nussmeier eclipse that number in the Texas Bowl on New Years Eve, only Joe Burrow’s historic 2019 season would best it in LSU’s history.
Many draft analysts and experts projected Nussmeier to be a first or second round selection is the coming draft, but that time will have to wait.
Nussmeier’s return provides stability to an LSU offensive unit that will be missing key pieces from the 2024 offensive line, wide receiving corps and tight end group.
With the signal caller in place, and LSU can more ambitiously sell the direction of the 2025 team to prospective transfer portal additions in December.
LSU begins preparation for the Texas Bowl on Thursday. Kickoff between LSU and Baylor is set for December 31 at 2:30 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
