Van Buren assumed the starting role at Mississippi State when starter Blake Shapen was lost for the season. He made seven starts and threw for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns. He added five scores on the ground.
The 6-foot signal caller hails from Bowie, Md., and was a four-star recruit according to ESPN and Rivals. He was initially committed to Oregon before flipping to Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs.
Van Buren adds depth to an LSU quarterback position that lost Rickie Collins to the transfer portal.
