LSU has hauled in nine transfers midway through this cycle. LSU has addressed concerned at defensive end and cornerback. Two more areas of need are tight end and wide receiver.
Bauer Sharp, the former Oklahoma tight end, became LSU’s first addition back on Friday.
After wide outs Barion Brown and Destyn Hill pledged to the Tigers. Nic Anderson made it a trio of transfers at the position.
Thought they only played two games together, Sharp and Anderson both come from Oklahoma where the shined over the course of two different seasons.
Anderson was a freshman All-American and set the Sooner record for touchdowns as a freshman with 10 in 2023. Sharp led the Sooner offense in catches in 2024.
Brandon Drumm covers Oklahoma for OU Insider, part of the Rivals network, and jumped abord The Hunt Palmer Show on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge to discuss the former Sooners.
On Bauer Sharp…
“He’s an athlete, former quarterback. He’s a really, really great athlete. He was probably utilized in the wrong way at Oklahoma. They used him quite a bit as kind of a split zone blocker. He’s probably better as a split out. I want to get this straight, he did get better at blocking. I think everybody saw that. But he’s a fantastic athlete, can make difficult catches. He’s just new to the tight end position. I think if he had another year at Oklahoma, particularly with (new offensive coordinator) Ben Arbuckle, he would have been super successful.
“Just a really strong athlete, really good player. New to the position, so (LSU) will have some ups and downs with him, but he’s going to make some plays where you just sit there and scratch your head and say, ‘how the hell did he do that.'”
On Sharp as a lead blocker…
“He got better, but I’ve watched him completely whiff as a lead blocker on a split zone. Just literally watch the linebacker run by him, and then he tried to go to the second level, and the play goes for no gain. So, he’s a work in progress. I think (LSU) will get the best part of him. Kudos to LSU for that. OU got the ill-advised throws, the tight end screen against Ole Miss. The fumbles. They got the headaches. LSU will probably get the all-conference guy everyone thought he was going to be when he showed up. He flashes all spring and all fall. such high expectations that he just didn’t live up to. He probably will at LSU.”
On Nic Anderson…
“He’s a freak. He was an underutilized player out of high school. He came from Katy. They just ran the ball, ran the ball, ran the ball the entire time. He’s a big pass catcher. He’s going to be a playmaker for LSU. He fits the mold of what you all are used to at the wide receiver position. He just kind of has an injury thing, though…He had the injury bug. Couldn’t stay healthy with his hip. Before that he had kind of a knee problem a hamstring problem and all that kind of stuff. So, that’s something you have to worry about with Nic Anderson, but at the same time, if he’s healthy he’s probably one of the best wide receivers in the country….My hunch is that you’re going to get the 2023 version of Nic Anderson making plays for the Tigers, and if that’s the case you’re going to have an all-conference player.”
