Clemson appears to have a new defensive coordinator.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are close to an agreement with current Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen.
The Nittany Lions finished the 2024 season Top 10 in total (7) and scoring (8) defense and were eliminated in the College Football Playoff semifinals by Notre Dame.
Allen, 54, was the head coach at Indiana from 2017 to 2023. He was the Big 10 Coach of the Year in 2020, but the Hoosiers went just 9-27 over his final three seasons in Bloomington.
Clemson fired Wes Goodwin on January 6. His Tiger defense allowed 160.6 yards per game on the ground this season, the school’s worst output since 2011.
LSU and Clemson will open the 2025 season at Clemson on August 30.
