Since their arrival in Baton Rouge in 1984, the Bertmans have made a legendary mark. Skip served as head baseball coach at LSU from 1984 to 2001 and then as Athletic Director from 2001-2008. Sandy could always be seen right by his side.
Sandy battled cancer in the final stages of her life. Though Skip still maintains a presence at Alex Box Stadium most weekends, Sandy’s appearances had become less frequent over the last three years.
The Bertmans raised four daughters, Jan, Jodi, Lisa and Lori. Lisa passed away from cancer at age 44 in 2012.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 19, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at the United Jewish Congregation synagogue, 3354 Kleinert Avenue in Baton Rouge.
A service celebrating Sandy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the synagogue, with a reception to follow.
