Houston safety AJ Haulcy picks LSU over Miami

More talent is headed to DBU.

Houston safety transfer AJ Haulcy committed to LSU Sunday according to Matt Zenitz and 247sports. Miami previously hosted Haulcy and was in the mix until the end, but ultimately LSU was the choice.

Haulcy was excellent as a Cougar in 2024. He started all 12 games at safety and was named 1st Team All-Big 12 by the league’s coaches and the AP. His 74 tackles were second on the team.

His pass defense was particularly strong. He led the Big 12 with five interceptions, and his 12 passes defensed were second in the league.

Haulcy stands 6-feet and tips the scales at 215 lbs. He began his career at New Mexico before transferring home to Houston where he starred in high school.

Haulcy joins fellow transfers Mansoor Delane and Tamarcus Cooley as newcomers who could see time at safety alongside returners Jardin Gilbert, Javien Toviano, Deshawn Spears and Joel Rogers.

Brian Kelly said repeatedly in 2024 that the Tigers needed more production at the safety spot. Haulcy was a massively productive safety in 2024.

He becomes another option in a crowded secondary looking for starters to emerge.
