OMAHA, Neb.– LSU’s quest to win a College World Series will begin against one of the SEC’s best arms.
Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn announced Thursday that left-hander Zach Root will get the ball for the Razorbacks on Saturday night against LSU.
Root has enjoyed an exceptional season for the Hogs, posting an 8-5 record with a 3.59 ERA. Last week he hurled seven sparkling innings against Tennessee, limited the potent Vol lineup to just two runs, one earned with six strikeouts. That ran his total for the season to a robust 119.
LSU saw Root in the series opener in Baton Rouge back on May 9. He worked six innings and allowed just two runs while striking out six without a walk. The Tigers got the Arkansas bullpen for three late runs in that game to earn the win.
The 6-foot-2 southpaw was clocked at 98 mph last weekend and features multiple above average offspeed pitches.
LSU has not announced a starting pitcher.
