In the end, home won out for Lamar Brown.
The five-star prospect and top-ranked player in the state of Louisiana chose LSU on Thursday over Texas A&M primarily, though Miami and Texas were in the mix.
Brown is a remarkable talent.
At 6-foot-4 and 285 lbs., many believe he possesses the traits to play both offensive and defensive line at the pinnacle of college football. He’s also a state champion in both the shotput and discuss at University Lab School on LSU’s campus.
Brown is the No. 7 player in the country according to On3/Rivals and the nation’s No. 1 player by ESPN.
Texas A&M and LSU each hosted Brown on campus double-digit times over the last three years, and insiders on the recruiting trail never fully got a read on Brown’s thought process.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is thought of as an elite defensive line developer. The Aggies are also among the wealthiest donor bases in the country. Generally, their pitch to join “The Aggie Network” after graduation is a strong one, and they certainly had Brown’s ear all the way.
In addition to LSU’s tradition, national championship pedigree and dynamic staff, the opportunity to play just minutes from family and friends for his hometown and home state was just too much for Brown to pass up.
Where Brown ends up on the field is to be determined. Many consider him a defensive line prospect, but he’s been exceptional on the camp circuit as an interior offensive lineman as well.
Whether he’s rushing the passer from the defensive interior or edge or protecting the passer on the offensive front, Brown’s size and athleticism make him as good a prospect as there is in the cycle.
Brown joins fellow five-stars Tristen Keys (WR), Trenton Henderson (EDGE) and Richard Anderson (DL) in LSU’s loaded 2026 recruiting class which now stands at 15 commitments and boasts the highest average player rating according to On3/Rivals.
