The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program is a program dedicated to providing invaluable coaching experience to minority coaches, high school coaches and also former players who are interested in a career in coaching at the NFL level.
The New Orleans Saints have been a constant source for this honor and are again going to be welcoming in one of the program’s fellows during this year’s training camp.
Tulane running backs coach Brock Hays has been named to the fellowship this year, the college announced on Wednesday.

This opportunity will provide Hays with more hands-on experience at the pro level after already having found much success with the Green Wave running backs in his first year coaching the position. He had a tall task ahead of him in 2024, continuing the growing reputation of successful run games to come out of Uptown.
In 2024, Tulane RB Mahki Hughes rushed for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdown runs. He admirably filled the gap left by former Green Wave back and now-Tennessee Titans rusher Tyjae Spears.
Before arriving at Tulane, Hays was the running backs coach for Troy. In 2023, he helped lead the team to a top-10 Sun Belt rushing attack and provided development for running back Kimani Vidal, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Beyond his impact on the field, he’s gained traction as an excellent recruiter and culture-builder as well.
That should make him a natural fit working with the Saints this offseason.
New Orleans hosted Bill Walsh fellows in the past including former offensive lineman Jahri Evans, former defensive lineman Ty Warren and most recently former linebacker Sio Moore. Evans is now the team’s assistant offensive line coach.
