Skenes to make second All-Star start in as many seasons

Paul Skenes has made more history.

Saturday it was announced that Skenes will start the All-Star Game for the National League, an honor he received as a rookie in 2024. Skenes becomes the first pitcher and fifth big leaguer to start the game in his first two seasons.

Skenes leads the National League in ERA (2.01), ERA+ (213), Fielding-Independent Pitching (2.41) and home runs allowed per nine innings (0.4). He’s struck out 131 hitters in 121 innings, has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless first innings and is one of 17 pitchers all time to reach 300 strikeouts in 43 starts.

The former Tiger and No. 1 overall draft choice is simply as good a pitcher as there is in the sport, and he’ll take the mound at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday to deliver the first pitch of the All-Star Game.

Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers will take the ball for the American League.
