Twenty rounds have come and gone.
The 2025 MLB Draft is in the books.
LSU had nine rostered players selected and eight signees taken. My unsourced guess is that all eight sign professionally.
It’s disappointing that Luis Hernandez wasn’t drafted at all. On the plus side, Zac Cowan and Jaden Noot were unselected and will return to school. Chris Stanfield can return for his senior season or sign an undrafted free agent contract with a major league team if offered.
A reminder that players selected in the first 10 rounds generally have agreed to terms with the organization. If a player drafted in the first 10 rounds does not sign, the organization loses that pick’s slot value from its draft pool. It’s a rare, rare occasion when a top-10 round selection does not sign.
Beyond the 10th round, picks become far less certain to sign. How much money the organization is willing to offer determines if the player will sign or pass on professional baseball for the time being.
2025 LSU Roster
Kade Anderson, LHP – Drafted No. 3 overall by the Seattle Mariners
Zac Cowan, RHP
Daniel Dickinson, 2B – The Milwaukee Brewers took Daniel Dickinson with the 185th pick, a sixth round selection. He’ll begin his pro career.
Anthony Eyanson, RHP – Drafted No. 87 by the Boston Red Sox. Eyanson was a potential first round pick, but he slipped to the third round. He could still garner a seven-figure payout. Eyanson was the winning pitcher in the national title game.
Ethan Frey, OF – Ethan Frey will turn professional. He was taken in the third round by the Houston Astros at pick No. 95. Sources tell LouisianaSports.net that Frey will get in the neighborhood of $1 million at a slot of $803,900.
Luis Hernandez, C/1B
Jared Jones 1B – Jones waited longer than many figured, but his name was finally called by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth round. The slot value there is $206.10k. Jones leaves LSU a two-time national champion and one of the best power hitters in program history.
Jacob Mayers, RHP – Five picks after Jones was selected, Jacob Mayers went to the Red Sox in the ninth round. He’ll have to throw more strikes, but Mayers is a serious talent to land that deep in the draft.
Jaden Noot, RHP
Chase Shores, RHP – Taken No. 47 by the Los Angeles Angels. Shores likely gets north of $2.5 million in this spot. His time in Baton Rouge didn’t go perfectly according to script, but he became a star out of the bullpen and will get a sizeable check to move on to the next level.
Chris Stanfield, OF
Conner Ware, LHP – Ware was selected by the New York Mets in the 15th round. He can sign the contract for the offered amount or come back to LSU without any draft leverage next season.
Kade Woods, RHP – Woods was taken in the 10th round by the Atlanta Braves. The Braves will be looking to save some money in spots to pay Briggs McKenzie. Signing the senior, Woods, could help.
High School Signees
Jonah Aase, LHP
Mason Braun, 1B
Ethan Clauss, SS
Brady Ebel, INF – Drafted No. 32 by the Milwaukee Brewers. Ebel’s father is the third base coach for the Dodgers. He has grown up in professional baseball and has been considered a longshot to reach campus. Now, he will not.
Jaden Fauske, OF – Drafted No. 44 by the Chicago White Sox. Fauske is an elite athlete who can play infield or outfield. He is probably the most gifted player in the LSU signing class. He will move on to pro ball.
Briggs McKenzie, LHP – McKenzie went in the late fourth round, No. 127 to the Atlanta Braves. His slot is $588.90k. LSU felt like there was a shot to get the talented left-hander to campus. That won’t happen. This is a disappointing hit to the signing class.
Dean Moss, OF – Taken by the Tampa Bay Rays at No. 67 overall in the second round. This is the first one that really stings. Moss is a fabulous hitter who doesn’t have elite speed or power at this point. But the power may come. The slot at 67 is worth $1,285,400.
River Hamilton, RHP – Hamilton came off the board at No. 399 in the 11th round to the Detroit Tigers. That pick is not slotted, so the Tigers will have to find the money to pay Hamilton. The organization’s draft pool is $10,990,800, and they only drafted one college senior in the first 10 rounds as a money saver. Hamilton will have a decision to make based on money. LSU felt he would be a very hard player to get to school. The MLB Tigers likely get to make that call.
Landon Hodge, C – Taken by the White Sox with pick No. 106 in the fourth round. Hodge is a left-handed hitting catcher with premium tools. He was a longshot to get to campus. LSU got Cade Arrambide to campus last year and will add Omar Serna in this class, so the catcher pipeline is healthy.
William Patrick, OF
Marcos Paz, RHP
Reagen Ricken, RHP – Withdrew from MLB Draft
Jack Ruckert, SS
Omar Serna, C – Withdrew from MLB Draft
Miguel Sime Jr., RHP – Sime was taken No. 111 by the Nationals. Slot value is $687.80k. He’s a flamethrowing right-hander with a 101 mph fastball. He was another longshot to make it to campus. He will not.
Zion Theophilus, RHP
Quentin Young, 3B – Taken No. 54 overall by the Minnesota Twins. Young has an MLB pedigree with two uncles who had great careers. He’s 6-foot-6 and can create a ton of bat speed. He was the least likely candidate to make it to campus. He will not.
Junior College Signees
Daniel Harden, OF
Ethan Plog, RHP
Transfer Portal Commitments
Seth Dardar, INF
Brayden Simpson, INF
