METAIRIE, La. — As training camp day one approaches, the New Orleans Saints announced several roster moves Tuesday afternoon.
Tyrann Mathieu retirement official
New Orleans made the retirement of safety Tyrann Mathieu official. The team added him to the Reserved/Retired list, signaling an end for the Honey Badger’s decorated and successful career.
He announced his retirement earlier on Tuesday, just before the Saints’ media availability began.
One player waived
The Saints’ tight end room got a little less busy. The team also announced that second-year tight end Dallin Holker has been waived. It was far from the only news at the tight end position, however.
It was also far from the end for Holker’s day. Soon after the Saints announced that he was waived, Holker posted on his Instagram page that he has made the decision to retire from football.

These two moves create the roster spots needed to accommodate rookie Tyler Shough’s contract being signed and the signing of defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard.
Two start on Physically Unable to Perform List
Two tight ends, Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill, will begin training camp on the PUP list. They can be activated at any time and still count against the team’s offseason roster count.
Both general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Kellen Moore projected optimism about their eventual returns, but declined to enlist a timeline for the moment.
