Missouri head football coach Eli Drinkwitz is receiving a contract extension through 2029. The school approved the deal and made the announcement late Thursday morning.
“The consistent progress we’ve seen under Coach Drinkwitz’s leadership is inspiring,” athletic director Laird Veatch said. “This extension, along with increased investment in our coaching and support staff, reflects our commitment to sustaining success at the highest level. It’s all part of our ‘Will to Win’ — a clear statement that we’re building championship programs.”

The deal also includes an increase in salary for his assistant coaches as well as the support staff. While the details of the contract have yet to be made public, his previous contract had a salary of $9 million per year. That deal was tied for the 11th highest head coaching salary in the country along with Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin, and Tennessee’s Josh Heupel.
Any increase over $9 million would make him the fifth highest paid coach in the SEC.
Drinkwitz is heading into his sixth year as Missouri’s head coach. The Tigers are coming off back-to-back ten win seasons for the first time since 2013-2014 and just the third time in program history. With a 38-24 record, Drinkwitz is already the fifth winningest coach in program history. That includes four consecutive bowl game appearances which is tied for the second longest run in Mizzou history as well.
