Ethan Frey’s breakout junior season paid off. Literally.
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Frey signed with the Houston Astros for $997,500. The slot value for Frey’s third round selection was $803,900.

3rd rounder Ethan Frey got $997,500. Slot value for his pick at 95 was $803,900.
7th rounder Jase Mitchell got $797,500. Slot value for his pick at 216 was $267,700.

After a freshman season mainly spent on the bench watching the national champions, Frey tore his labrum as a sophomore and played through it with little success. He hit .228 without a home run in 34 games.
Frey had his shoulder repaired in the offseason and came back for 2025 healthy. It showed. The Rosepine native hit .331 with 13 homers and 50 runs driven in as LSU’s primary designated hitter.
His three-run double in the decisive regional game against Little Rock cut into a 5-1 deficit and propelled the Tigers to the win. He scored six runs in Omaha to lead the Tigers, and he clubbed a whistling RBI double in game two of the CWS finals as LSU swept Coastal Carolina to win the school’s eighth championship.
Frey will embark on his professional career as a two-time national champion.
