July 31, 2025: during fall practice at Charles McClendon Practice Facility in Baton Rouge, LA. Michael Bacigalupi
By Matt Moscona
LSU practiced for the second time in Fall Camp Thursday with the media invited to watch the first three periods. The Tiger practiced indoors during the allotted time and were once again in helmets.
The first period was dedicated to special teams with both placekickers Damian Ramos and Aeron Burrell kicking PATs and field goals. The two would alternate kicks from different distances: one short and the other long. Ramos was with the first unit, which includes a new holder in Grant Chadwick and long snapper Jonathan Ferguson.
Ramos missed kicks from 28 and 48 yards but connected from 44. Burrell nailed his 48 -yard attempt with plenty of room to spare. The sophomore showed off his massive leg handling kickoff duties as a true freshman and will be an exciting heir apparent to Ramos in 2026.
The offense ran a hurry-up drill against air with three units taking their turn. Here was the play-by-play:
First Team:
1 – Nussmeier screen complete to Bauer Sharp
2 – Caden Durham rush on zone read
3 – Zavion Thomas 35-yard TD reception down left sideline
4 – Sharp reception on a 15 yard out route
5 – Barion Brown touchdown reception on a slant
6 – Chris Hilton screen pass for a touchdown
Second Team:
1 – Ju’Juan Johnson took the first rep at QB and handed off to Kaleb Jackson
2 – Michael Van Buren entered and completed a 35-yard TD pass to Jelani Watkins
3 – Destyn Hill reception on a quick slant
4 – Van Buren overthrew Kyle Parker on a crossing route
5 – Kaleb Jackson rush on a zone read
Third Team: (Colin Hurley at QB)
1 – Tight End screen complete to Donovan Green
2 – Phillip Wright reception
3 – Check down to Wright
4 – Hurley threw wide to Nic Anderson
5 – TaRon Francis reception on a quick slant
6 – Harlem Berry Zone Read
One key note is that Aaron Anderson was not seen during the media viewing portion of practice. Barion Brown replaced him with the first team offense along with Chris Hilton and Zavion Thomas.
The defense ran a four-circuit drill during this time. One station was dedicated to blitzing, another tackling a dummy to the ground. The third was a pursuit drill, and the fourth was wrapping up and driving a dummy backwards.
LSU returns to practice Friday with no media availability. Media will have access to the full workout Saturday morning.
