The New Orleans Saints saw a small wave of injuries during the seventh day of training camp. Tight ends Juwan Johnson and Treyton Welch, along with defensive tackle John Ridgeway III, all left Wednesday’s practice early.
Following the day’s on-field work, head coach Kellen Moore acknowledged each injury and promised an update following Thursday’s practice once more evaluations were done. But one injury has already received a progress update, and it’s all good news.
Per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Johnson, the team’s top tight end, left practice with a groin injury that isn’t considered serious. Per Schultz, Johnson is only expected to miss “a few days” of camp.
A corroborating report followed later Wednesday afternoon by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, who confirmed that Johnson avoided major injury.
Juwan Johnson avoided major injury, per source. Expected to miss a few days, but shouldn’t be too bad.

That’s great news for Johnson and the Saints. The tight end has had a stellar camp so far, continuing to make big plays. He has been a focal point of the passing game in an eye-catching way.
Johnson missed a large portion of training camp last year dealing with a foot injury. The situation last year wore mentally on the tight end. It seems with this injury, he can rest assured that he’ll be back in the field quickly.
