August 2, 2025: during fall practice at Charles McClendon Practice Facility in Baton Rouge, LA. Michael Bacigalupi
By Hunt Palmer and Matt Moscona
The shoulder pads were on early Saturday morning as LSU went to work for its fourth practice of Fall Camp.
Notably, Aaron Anderson was at practice but was not dressed out. He missed Thursday’s workout as well. Anderson was in his jersey with a sleeve on his left leg. He was in good spirits and helped coach the wide outs through drills.
Linebacker Whit Weeks did not participate in team drills but did go through individual periods.
No one else of note was missing as the team continues to acclimate to practicing in the conditions.

The team began the practice indoors with some special teams work. Damion Ramos made his first kick from inside 40 yards and misfired just wide right from about 50 yards.
The offense then went to work on air. Without Anderson, the first three wide outs were Chris Hilton, Destyn Hill and Zavion Thomas, but the theme of these early season practices has been rotation. Multiple substitutions take place on almost every rep for the defensive front, secondary and wide receivers.
The first and second team offensive lines did not change from Wednesday’s camp opener.
We got a look at some punting when the practice reached the outdoors. Grant Chadwick showed off his booming leg on a couple of high, long punts. He booted a few traditionally and also worked on a rolling punt where he took three steps to the right and kicked it end over end. Saturday’s punting was significantly better than last year’s group.
The offense and defense got together for the first 11-on-11.
- Direct snap to Ju’Juan Johnson who was lined up at tailback with Garrett Nussmeier. Johnson played a lot of running back on Saturday.
- Nussmeier scrambled and misfired for Zavion Thomas with Ashton Stamps in coverage
- Caden Durham rush for little gain
- Durham danced through the defense untouched for what likely would have been a touchdown
- Play action fake with good coveragwe that forced a scramble and throw away
- Durham for no gain with West Weeks and Jack Pyburn on the stop
Then the second units went in
- CJ Jimcoily sack of Michael Van Buren
- Johnson rush for no gain
- Direct snap to Durham that rolled back. Bad snap by Brett Bordelon
The front line offensive and defensive linemen broke for 1-on-1s
- Tyree Adams beat Harold Perkins
- Tyree Adams and Jack Pyburn locked up
- DJ Chester beat Bernard Gooden, holding was called
- Gooden Beat Chester in a rematch
- Braelin Moore and Ahmad Breaux split two reps
- Josh Thompson beat Dominick McKinley on the first rep and McKinley’s bull rush was affective on the second
- Weston Davis won a pair of reps against Patrick Payton and Gabe Reliford
While those drills were going on, the skill players worked 7-on-7. Like Wednesday, Nussmeier was sharp in this period. He started 6-for-6 and finished 11-for-12
- Kyle Parker caught an out route
- Durham grabbed a checkdown
- Parker caught another out route. He’s had a nice start to camp
- Bauer Sharp made a catch over the middle for about eight yards
- Chris Hilton made a sliding catch for five yards
- Barion Brown grabbed a 20 yarder up the left seam. He also made a great catch on a deep ball in 1-on-1s earlier in practice
Michael Van Buren stepped in for four snaps
- Nic Anderson caught a 10-yard stop
- Harlem Berry caught an option route over the middle for about five yards
- DJ Pickett broke up a pass on the sideline on TaRon Francis
- The last rep was covered up so Van Buren tucked it to run
Nussmeier finished off the drill
- Jelani Watkins made a diving catch on the right sideline for 20 yards
- Parker beat Monsoor Delane over the middle
- Zavion Thomas caught a checkdown that West Weeks was all over near the line of scrimmage
- Parker caught a dump off for five yards
- Finally Nussmeier threw incomplete looking for Francis up the seam
Colin Hurley got his shot to close the drill
- Ja’Keem Jackson was flagged for interference. He mugged Nic Anderson on a go route
- Hurley threw high for Phillip Wright on the sideline
- JT Lindsey caught an eight yard stop route
- AJ Haulcy broke up a seam route to Francis
The final 11-on-11 period we saw involved a lot of reps and a lot of substitutions. Most notable, the defensive front showed a pass rush package than included Jack Pyburn and Ahmad Breaux at defensive tackle with Kolaj Cobbins and Patrick Payton on the edge. That’s a lot of pass rush ability.
The highlight of the last period was AJ Haulcy coming down to stuff Kaleb Jackson at the line fo scrimmage. Paired with his earlier pass break up, Haulcy had a big day.
As far as personnel goes, Johnson took three handoffs in the period. He works with the quarterbacks in individual periods but has lined up with the backs in team periods both days I’ve observed.
