NEW ORLEANS, La. – The first unofficial depth chart is here for the New Orleans Saints, and the word “unofficial” cannot be overstated.
Ahead of the first preseason game, the Saints released what the early breakdown of their roster looks like and unsurprisingly did so without announcing a starting quarterback against the Los Angeles Chargers.
This was expected, as the Saints will still have two more practices on Thursday and Friday. The latter will include more scrimmage situations and scenarios, allowing the team to get a little more information before announcing the rotation of quarterbacks that will be seen during the exhibition game in Los Angeles.

There are few surprises on the depth chart, which is mostly ordered by seniority. However, there are a few highlights.
Jake Haener No. 3
Usually these depth charts end up following the order of experience. Even though all three quarterbacks are separated by the heavily-working “OR” signifying, rookie quarterback Tyler Shough is still curiously listed ahead of third-year passer Jake Haener. Second-year Spencer Rattler leads the way.
Whether deciphering with NFL experience, starting game experience or draft position, this seems to be a deliberate choice.
Davon Godchaux is the Biggest Big Man
The nose tackle position will be very important to new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s scheme. Despite defensive tackle Khalen Saunders having more experience with the team, Godchaux, who was acquired via trade this offseason, is listed ahead of him on the depth chart. Godchaux has, without doubt, been the best nose tackle of training camp.
Julian Blackmon Caught on Quickly
Blackmon wasn’t signed until the first day of training camp had already concluded. But he stands atop the safety hierarchy next to Justin Reid, leaping third-year safety Jordan Howden as well as rookie Jonas Sanker.
Finally a Hint at Running Back?
With much of the run game still left to be seen during the preseason, third-year back Kendre Miller is listed as the second back behind star Alvin Kamara. The rest of the list is then in order of seniority by NFL experience. A good, albeit unofficial, sign for Miller, who is looking to prove he is healthy and ready for a large role in 2025.
