For Cam Sanders, seven years were worth the wait.
The former LSU pitcher was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday to make his Major League debut. Sanders was a 12th round draft choice by the Cubs in 2018 and has spent the last four years in Double-A and Triple-A with the Cubs and Pirates organizations.
In 15 games at the Pirates’ AAA affiliate in Indianapolis, Sanders has worked 18.2 innings with a 1.93 ERA. He’s struck out 25 against just seven walks.
His lone season with LSU came in 2018 when he made 18 appearances including four starts with an ERA of 5.59. He started LSU regional win in Corvallis over Northwestern State, working five innings and allowing three earned runs.
Sanders is the son of former MLB pitcher Scott Sanders.
