NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Saints aren’t stopping operations as they head to California for the next leg of training camp and the beginning of their preseason.
The Saints announced on Tuesday that they have waived tight end Seth Green. The team then claimed former San Francisco 49ers tight end Mason Pline, per the league’s transaction wire.
Green struggled throughout training camp with some standout drops. His biggest came during one of the final drives of the team’s scrimmage day wherein he let a potential touchdown pass slip through his arms from rookie quarterback Tyler Shough. Rookie safety Jonas Sanker got a fingertip on the pass, altering its rotation, but the ball was catchable and led to many groans from onlooking fans in attendance.

New Orleans then immediately filled the void at tight end by claiming Pline off of waivers.
The Ferris State basketball player spent a year at fullback with Furman University where he caught 32 passes for 287 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions in 2023, per the school’s website. He appeared in 13 games that season.

The 6-foot-7, 260 pound tight end was signed as an undrafted free agent to the 49ers last year. He spent all season on the practice squad and received only one target during last year’s preseason.
Pline will enter a room that is managing quite a bit of attrition. Tight ends Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill are both on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list while Juwan Johnson manages a minor groin injury. He will join a rotation of Treyton Welch, Michael Jacobson and rookie Moliki Matavao when the team returns to the field in Irvine, Calif. on Thursday as practices resume on the west coast.
