It was a tough rookie season for former Pittsburgh wideout Bub Means last year. He suffered an ankle injury against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, and now the New Orleans Saints pass-catcher is dealing with another one suffered in the same stadium.
The Saints traveled to take on the Chargers for their opening preseason game, and among a quarter of players that left the field throughout the first three quarters was Means.
He was carted off the field without his right shoe on and with a towel draped over his head. Hardly a good all-encompassing sight.
Per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, the wideout is now managing another ankle injury and will seek a second opinion to determine how best to move forward.
Means has spent all offseason in a bush wide receiver room that already has its top four options in Chris Olave, Rashid Shaeed, Brandon Cooks and Mason Tipton. The second-year passer was coming into the season as one of the few bigger-bodied and more physical options in the room. He had a strong showing at minicamp and OTAs, but a relatively quiet training camp that was just starting to heat up for him.
Means will miss some time, how much will be dependent upon his second opinion and the treatment that follows.
