Irvine, Calif. — After remaining impressively healthy throughout training camp, the New Orleans Saints are managing a slew of recent injuries after hitting the playing field on Sunday.
A pair of injuries that the Saints, despite their new practices, inherited over the offseason were lower-leg injuries suffered by tight ends Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill.
Both injuries occurred late last season with Hill’s falling on December 1 during the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, Moreau’s injury took place in the final game of the season on January 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Both players have been on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list since camps began for the Saints this offseason. While they can come off of that list at any time, it doesn’t sound like either are very close to doing so, which makes sense considering each injury forced surgery and a recovery period.
“They’re not getting ready to get on the field anytime soon,” Kellen Moore said Tuesday following the team’s practice.
This has been the expectation for sometime, despite some hopeful optimism, that both of these injuries, especially Hill’s torn ACL, would result in a mid- to late-season return. While there’s still no definite timeline on when they’ll make their return to the field, this sets up a more pragmatic presumption that both recovering players will take time to return to the field.
