Coming out of the NFL Draft, it was widely believed that the cornerback room would see some competition. With second-year cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry a lock on the outside and slot corner Alontae Taylor set for the STAR role, there was expected to be a battle for the boundary corner role opposite McKinstry.
However, veteran corner Isaac Yiadom started training camp there and never relinquished the role.
After Louisville cornerback Quincy Riley was drafted in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the possibility for a competition on the outside seemed viable.
Yiadom led the NFL in forced incompletion percentage among qualifying cornerbacks when he was with the Saints in 2023. Riley led his draft class in career interceptions with 15. Both corners have strong and reliable skill sets.
However, the battle only got so far. Yiadom has seen just about every single first team rep at outside corner so far this offseason. He’s covered well, gotten his hands on some passes and has been a high-level communicator so far, something that is very important to defensive coordinator Brandon Staley and his defense.
Not only has Yiadom taken on a leadership role among the position group, he’s taken and held onto leadership on the depth chart as well.
