Preseason Week Two is on the way as the New Orleans Saints ready themselves to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The focus of the game will be on the quarterback battle, but many other players are hoping to sew up their roles or even keep their roster spots as a whole.
While some players are jostling for positioning on the roster, others are trying to make sure they have their best showings in order to earn a job.
DE Isaiah Foskey
While some around the team are pleased with what Foskey did during the preseason game from a sound responsibility standpoint, he didn’t flash the way that many would have liked to see. Making a roster isn’t about flashes, of course, but impact plays are expected with high draft positions. Foskey has been taken to task quite a bit already this offseason with a relatively quiet camp and a very quiet preseason game. Coming out against the Jaguars and showing off some of the athleticism and playmaking ability he showcased while at Notre Dame would be massively beneficial for the pass rusher.
Foskey needed a strong camp to make the team this year, IMO. Haven’t seen that yet this summer. https://t.co/Hs7aftHTpz

He doesn’t have to have a multi-sack game or some ground-breaking performance. But with undrafted rookie Jasheen Davis missing time, his window is wide open to go out there and make good on the healthy amount of snaps he’s again expected to see.
DT Khalen Saunders
The two-time Super Bowl champion is all of a sudden surrounded by interior defensive line talent while a new coaching staff evaluates the group. The situation for Saunders is a lot different than Foskey though, as Saunders isn’t underperforming expectations by any stretch. Instead, he’s simply in a very crowded and new situation. The defensive tackle group is going to be one of the hardest groups to cut down. The best way to retain or claim a role in this room is going to be by aggressively snatching it. Saunders could do that against Jacksonville.
OL Landon Young
Without a doubt, Young is one of the smartest players in the Saints’ locker room. After missing last week’s game against the Chargers with injury, he now has a chance to showcase that football IQ on the field Sunday. With veteran linemen Will Clapp and Nick Saldiveri done for the season, Young is going to quickly become one of the most important depth players on the Saints offensive line. He may have his roster spot set already, but even if he does, a strong performance against the Jaguars will be a major confidence boost in an area the Saints have struggled to shore up this offseason thanks to health complications.
