The decision on who will don No. 18 this fall for LSU remains to be made.
Asked Thursday on After Further Review with Matt Moscona, former No. 18 Brandon Taylor voiced his opinion.
“If it’s solely on me, there’s going to be a lot of similarities in the person I would pick,” Taylor said. “I got to play with two of my brothers at LSU my freshman year. And I wore 18, so that’s a little trivia for you. Who else has two brothers out there?”
Whit Weeks, an all-conference pick last season a one of LSU’s three representatives at SEC Media Days in July, fits that description.
“That’s a bad man,” Taylor said.
Weeks is among the leaders to get the call. Certainly fifth-year quarterback Garrett Nussmeier merits discussion. A case could be made for Jacobian Guillory or Chris Hilton, as well.
In recent seasons, the honor has go two one player on each side of the ball. josh Williams and Greg Penn wore the number last season. Damone Clarke and Chis Curry did so in 2020. The 2019 team honored K’Lavon chaisson and Lloyd Cushenberry.
That trend isn’t Taylor’s favorite.
“It should be just one guy,” Taylor said. “When you get in your vehicle, are there two people with their hands on the steering wheel?”
The decision was a announced August 22 last season, a week prior to kickoff. Within the next 10 days, LSU should reveal the 2025 honorees.
“We still haven’t made a decision yet,” Taylor said. “We’re still checking out everything. You look at every player, and you judge them basically the same way. You want to make that right decision with who you put that stamp on as 18.
