LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Vice President and Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer revealed on Monday the naming of the new press box media floor at Navarre Stadium as the Louis Bonnette Media Level in honor of the long-time McNeese Sports Information Director who served as the school’s first-ever SID for 46 years from 1966-2012.
“I’m so honored to name our media level after Mr. Louis Bonnette,” said Schroyer. “Louis is an icon and a man everyone in the industry respects. He and his family have done so much for McNeese Athletics and Southwest Louisiana. It’s only fitting that this level will forever be named after this special man and incredible family.”
The Louis Bonnette Media Level is the second of four levels to the new $32 million press box that will make its debut this Saturday night in the Cowboys’ season opener against Louisiana Christian.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Heath Schroyer for the incredible honor of having the media floor at the new McNeese football press box named for me,” said Bonnette. “This recognition is humbling and deeply meaningful to me and my family. The University has been such an important part of my life and to be recognized in such a permanent way is beyond anything that I could have imagined.
“I can still remember the very first press box and game at the stadium and all the excitement that the football games have provided since. This new press box is one of a kind and I am more than thrilled to have my name associated with it. Thank you for the tremendous honor.”
The Louis Bonnette Media Level is consisted of the press room, two coaches booths, two radio booths, a statistician booth, operations room, and film deck and ESPN broadcast booth.
