NEW ORLEANS, La. – The first release of the day for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday was a surprising one. The Saints have waived tight end Treyton Welch, per source with knowledge of the situation.
#Saints Treyton Welch has been waived, I’m told.

The source tells LouisianaSports.Net that Welch was offered a spot on the practice squad should he clear waivers. The belief is that his strong preseason gave him a chance to make the initial 53, but this transaction may not end his chances in New Orleans.
Welch joined the Saints last year after initially signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2024 season on the Saints’ practice squad and was offered a reserve/futures deal at the end of the season.
The Wyoming tight end ranked No. 4 for the Saints in receiving yards with 65 during the 2025 preseason including two big 20+ yard receptions over the final two games. He caught six of his seven preseason targets.
SHOUGH! WELCH! what a throw, what a catch.

It was a surprise to see Welch waived, as he had the most successful preseason of any of the tight end room and put together a strong camp. However, his journey to the active roster may not be done. If he clears waivers, there’s a chance that he lands back with New Orleans and could continue his climb from there.
