25 year old South Carolina transfer RB Rahsul Faison ruled eligible by the NCAA
The “Free Sul” chants and hashtags can finally be put to rest now. The announcement Shane Beamer and South Carolina fans had long awaited has finally arrived.
Former Utah State transfer Rahsul Faison is officially eligible for 2025, and no one’s more excited than the running back himself.
This process began in January when Faison initially committed to the Gamecocks from his former Mountain West program. Faison was ranked the No. 2 running back and No. 49 overall player according to 247Sports in the 2025 Transfer Portal Class. He’s an explosive back that runs a 4.40 forty-yard-dash, but doesn’t lack the size to run between the tackles at 6-foot, 220 pounds.
His talent may have never been in question but his eligibility certainly was.
Faison is the latest NCAA athlete to seek an extra year of eligibility under the Diego Pavia rule, which allows former JUCO players to void their junior college seasons since they weren’t under NCAA governance. He fit the criteria and checked all the boxes, however, his road was much more confusing than others.
Faison will be 25 to start the 2025 season, and even though he’s only played three years of college football, he was a part of the 2019 recruiting class.
Faison’s college path is as follows:
- 2019 – Marshall (grayshirt)
- 2020 – Lackawanna CC (Did not play, took online classes)
- 2021 – Snow College (JUCO, did not play)
- 2022 – Snow College (JUCO, played in nine games)
- 2023 – Utah State (played in 13 games)
- 2024 – Utah State (played in 12 games)
Regardless of his age, Faison instantly makes South Carolina an even bigger and more legitimate threat to win the SEC and compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff. For South Carolina, the timing couldn’t have been better, just five days before the Gamecocks open the season against Virginia Tech in Atlanta.
But again, nobody is happier than Rahsul Faison.
