A presumed New Orleans Saints free agency target may soon have clarity on his recovery and could look to land with a new team. However, any upcoming agreement appears to only be expected for the second half of the season.
Former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is expected to see another medical recheck in October, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
An update on Asante Samuel: He’s scheduled to undergo a CT scan in October to ensure successful spinal fusion. At that point, he will look to sign with a team for the second half of the year. Several teams have kept in touch. https://t.co/KveeGOJeuB

Samuel underwent a neck procedure early in the offseason and was expected to possibly be cleared as early as July. The corner visited with the Saints in May, but reportedly had a second contact with the team in July, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.
The former Charger was a part of now-Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s first draft class as a head coach.
There is a clear connection between Samuel and the Saints as one of the possible landing spots for the veteran corner. Assuming the cornerback is cleared in October, a reunion with Staley presents as a very possible option, especially if the Saints are dealing with injuries at the position at that point in the season.
