SHREVEPORT, La. | The Grambling State University football team opened the 2025 season with a convincing 55-7 victory over Langston at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. on Saturday night.
GSU (1-0) used aggressive defense and a balanced offensive attack to speed past LU (0-1)
The Tigers limited the Lions to just six first downs and 97 yards of total offense. Grambling State forced three turnovers and registered five sacks on the night.
Offensively, GSU rolled up 466 yards of total offense.
Starting quarterback C’Zavian Teasett had a solid debut for the G-Men, throwing for 203 yards and three TDs on 20-of-25 passing. Ashton Frye was also effective, going 6-of-8 for 44 yards and a touchdown.
The Tigers rumbled for 219 rushing yards with four different running backs finding the end zone. Tre Bradford led the unit with 56 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Grambling State got the scoring started on its second drive of the game. Following a forced fumble by Shayne Masonto that was recovered by Isaac Washington at the Tigers’ 34-yard line, GSU drove the down the field and scored a 6-yard TD run by Andre Crews with 5:51 on the clock.
After a Langston three and out, Teasett showcased his strong arm, connecting with Tyson George on a 55-yard TD to make it a 14-0 with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter.
A second quarter interception by Tyrell Raby set up GSU’s third score of the game. Raby picked off LU’s Kaid Barrett at the Lions 30-yard line, returning it the 1-yard line. Two plays later, Byron Eaton Jr. burst into the end zone, extending GSU’s advantage to 21-0 with 10:15 to until halftime.
With 4:53 left in the first half, Tre Bradford broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 28-0.
On Langston’s ensuing drive, GSU’s Katrevrick Banks forced another LU fumble, recovering it at the Lions’ 28-yard line. Teasett found CJ Knighten for a 3-yard TD pass to make it 35-0 just before halftime.
The Tigers opened the second half with an 11-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by a 7-yard touchdown pass from Teasett to Barron Miles.
With 3:25 left in the third quarter, Ashton Frye threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Frazier. After the extra point was blocked, GSU lead grew to 48-0.
GSU’s final score of the night came on an 11-yard touchdown run by Tony Phillips Jr. at the 12:54 mark of the fourth quarter.

Grambling State travels to Columbus, Ohio to face No. 3 Ohio State next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT at Ohio Stadium. The game will broadcast on Big Ten Network.
