In a unique strategy, the New Orleans Saints have added another former NFL general manager to their front office, per reports.
SI.com’s Albert Breer reported Tuesday morning that the Saints have hired former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff as a consultant.
Per Breer, Dimitroff will “help (Saints general manager) Mickey Loomis in all [facets].” That’s a broad list of responsibilities which highlights the nature of the addition. This won’t be new for New Orleans. Not only has Dimitroff been with the Saints since training camp, he is one of several former general managers now on staff.
Along with Loomis and Dimitroff, the Saints also have or have had Randy Mueller (former Saints general manager), Jeff Ireland (former Dolphins general manager) and until January 2025, Dave Ziegler all on staff. Ziegler became the Tennessee Titans assistant general manager this year.
Dimitroff led the rival Falcons for 13 years. During that time he achieved a 109-88 regular season record and also helped build a roster that saw six postseason appearances. Before joining the Saints, Dimitroff was the CEO of SumerSports, a company built to help guide roster construction across the college football and NFL landscapes. This could further the Saints’ potential buy in on analytics as a tool for building its future.
The Saints are in the midst of a rebuilding process. Adding more minds, opinions and strategies to construct its future roster is a good way to go, no matter what former teams those minds may have previously associated alongside.
