NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Saints have announced their 2025 team captains with a few new names making the list of vaunted veterans.
Offense
- WR Brandin Cooks
- C Erik McCoy
- RB Alvin Kamara
Defense
- LB Demario Davis
- DE Cam Jordan
- S Justin Reid
Special Teams
- K Blake Grupe
- LS Zach Wood
The Returning Captains
McCoy, Davis, Jordan and Wood are all returning captains from the 2024 preseason vote and all maintain their vital leadership roles for New Orleans.
Not Repeating Past Omissions
After not being elected a captain last year, Kamara was given captainship by then-interim head coach Darren Rizzi as one of his first acts taking on the position following the firing of Dennis Allen. Now, Kamara is an immediate captain for the 2025 season, a deserved title with the run game likely being the lifeblood of the team’s offense this year.
The First-Timers
Cooks gets his first captain nod with the team after returning to the club this offseason he presumably takes the place vacated by former quarterback Derek Carr or tight end Taysom Hill, who begins the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Reid is stepping into the vacated space left by retired safety Tyrann Mathieu in more than just one way. While replacing Mathieu is an impossible task, Reid is well equipped to help the team from a leadership perspective in his own right.
Grupe, the Saints’ kicker since 2023, had an incredible camp and preseason missing just one kick all summer longer. He earns a very deserved spot as a captain following the surprising release of former safety and special teams captain J.T. Gray.
