METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints were hoping to change their injury luck this season after suffering a surprising amount in practice. Unfortunately, that change of fortune isn’t off to a great start.
Head coach Kellen Moore spoke with the media following Wednesday’s practice, the first of the season as the team prepares for its Week 1 bout with the Arizona Cardinals. During his media availability, he presented the injury report, which included an ailment for a big name, suffered in practice.
“We had four limited guys,” he said. “Khristian Boyd with a hand, Jordan Howden with the oblique, (Alontae Taylor) with the groin and then Chase Young with the calf.”
Later, when asked about when Young suffered the injury, Moore said that the injury took place during practice.
That’s not an ideal situation. However, there have been several reports that the injury is minor. So perhaps the reaction to the in-practice injury is tied to the past issues more than anything in the present.
But per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, Young’s injury could still jeopardize his availability for Sunday’s matchup.
Sounds like this weekend could be at risk. Day to day. See how it goes. https://t.co/tDIsIFDeE7

If Young is unavailable Sunday, the Saints can still lean on Carl Granderson, Cameron Jordan and Chris Rumph II, along with practice squad options Fadil Diggs and Eku Leota.
This will be a close one to watch. Young was having a very healthy offseason. To have the opening game already hanging in the balance is sure to be frustrating for the edge rusher. Thursday and Friday’s practices will have all eyes on Young as he tries to keep his status for Sunday on the positive side of the equation.
