Louisiana quarterback Walker Howard will have surgery Friday to repair a serious oblique injury suffered in Saturday’s loss to Rice, multiple sources have confirmed to LouisianaSports.net. It is believed the injury will be season-ending.
Howard was seen by a specialist Thursday in Birmingham, Ala., at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.
The redshirt junior from Lafayette was injured on a fourth down run in the fourth quarter. He returned for one play in the next series, a 25-yard completion, but was unable to continue. Redshirt freshman Daniel Beale replaced Howard and finished the game.
Beale will make his first career start this Saturday against McNeese.
Howard is in his first season with the Ragin’ Cajuns. He signed with LSU in 2022 as the No.5 quarterback in the country out of Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas Moore. After one season with the Tigers, he transferred to Ole Miss, where he spent the last two seasons with Lane Kiffin’s Rebels.
UL and McNeese kick off Saturday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.
