NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals have announced their inactives for Sunday’s season kickoff game. Here are the inactive players that will not be eligible to appear in today’s matchup.
New Orleans Saints:
- WR Trey Palmer
- S Jordan Howden (Oblique)
- LG Trevor Penning (Toe)
- OL Xavier Truss
- DT Vernon Broughton
- DT Khristian Boyd
- DE Chase Young (Calf)
Young and Penning were already ruled out for this matchup, while Howden was questionable going in. Some of these inactives are a simple consequence to having a mostly healthy team to start the season. The NFL only allows 48 players, at maximum, to be active on game days, plus an additional emergency third quarterback, if designated.
With the Saints elevating two players from their practice squad Saturday, defensive lineman Jonah Williams and tight end Jack Stoll, seven inactives were required.
New Orleans will have some surprising names on these pregames lists for as long as they maintain health on the roster and as players come back from injury; a good problem to have.
