The Texas transfer joined LSU before spring practice, reuniting with then-defensive line coach Bo Davis. After Davis left for the New Orleans Saints, LSU hired Kyle Williams to lead the position group.
LSU added South Florida transfer Bernard Gooden in the spring and Mitchell struggled to move up the depth chart surrounded by players like Ahmad Breaux, Dominick McKinley and Jacobian Guillory. True freshman Walter Mathis Jr. has also logged significant snaps for the Tigers.
Mitchell played sparingly at Texas over two seasons, and did not log a defensive snap for LSU in the first two games of the season.
