Overreaction by fans is inevitable after Week 1.
It happens every year, and sometimes we just have to tell ourselves to R-E-L-A-X.
Regardless, panic sets in for fans whose teams underperformed in their season openers, so let’s take a look at exactly which fanbases are the most concerned, and which are the least concerned.
The website SportsBetting.ag conducted a semi-scientific study to see the full spectrum on an infograph, and you can find that here (as well as below): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JmX8b9xxCGZIj3Avn9pRuwrHkLpP2lCz/view?usp=sharing
The infograph is based on X data from Sunday evening until through last night, tracking “panic” tweets from each NFL fan base.
For example, “The Chiefs are cooked,” “The Chiefs are screwed,” “The Chiefs are terrible,” “The Chiefs time is over,” “The Chiefs suck,” “The Chiefs defense is horrible,” “Andy Reid should retire,” etc. It should be noted that all these tweets also have fan base identifiers, like #ChiefsKingdom.
Even the teams who won on Sunday will have their fair share of “doomers,” – i.e. “We shouldn’t have won,” “We played terrible,” “Our offense sucks,” “Our defense sucks,” “Change quarterbacks,” “Fire the coach,” “We got lucky,” “We won’t win next week playing like that,” etc.
Overall, more than 120,000 tweets were tracked.
Here’s the team-by-team panic tweet breakdown, and you can see the graphic below:
