METAIRIE, La. – No surprises on the New Orleans Saints’ final injury report of Week 2. In fact, perhaps some good news as right tackle Taliese Fuaga continues his positive trend while long snapper Zach Wood returns to full participation on Friday.
Here is the information from the Saints’ Friday injury report with game designations.
New Orleans Saints
Out
S Julian Blackmon (Shoulder)
T/G Trevor Penning (Toe)
DE Chase Young (Calf)
Questionable
T Taliese Fuaga (Knee)
No Game Designation (Good to go)
S Jordan Howden (Oblique)
RB Velus Jones Jr. (Knee)
LS Zach Wood (Elbow)
With Penning and Young out, the expectation remains that offensive lineman Dillon Radunz will continue to fill in at left guard while rookie defensive end Fadil Diggs could find his way back up to the active roster to help out on the edge rotation.
With Blackmon out, and possibly moving to Injured Reserve in the coming days, rookie safety Jonas Sanker has made it clear that he’s ready to make his debut as a starter.
“(I’m) just excited,” he said during his media availability on Thursday. (I’ve) just been preparing all summer and had a lot of time to kind of get used to the system and just used to the way they do things. So, really just excited, ready to get rolling.”
San Francisco 49ers
Out:
QB Brock Purdy (Left Shoulder, Toe)
Questionable:
WR Jauan Jennings (Shoulder)
T Trent Williams (Knee, NIR – Resting Player)
No Game Designation (Good to go):
G Ben Bartch (Knee, Elbow)
RB Jordan James (Finger)
WR Jordan Watkins (Ankle)
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (Knee)
LB Luke Gifford (Knee)
QB Mac Jones (Knee)
G Dominick Puni (Knee)
DE Nick Bosa (NIR – Resting Player)
RB Christian McCaffrey (Calf, NIR – Resting Player)
Quarterback Brock Purdy has officially been ruled out, meaning the Saints will be taking on passer Mac Jones. That has been the expectation all throughout the week and provides a bit of a window for the Saints to surprise with an upset victory in this matchup.
Another important name to watch will be offensive lineman Trent Williams. The veteran surrendered 10 pressures last week, per Next Gen Stats and is nursing a knee injury. He, much like the Saints’ Fuaga, could still play. But the mental side of the injury could be a factor.
