Usually the rumors for head coaching jobs don’t get started until October or November.
Flight tracker updates on Twitter and message board rumors thrive between Halloween and Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas, too. Not this season.
It took only three games for two Power Four coaches to be shown the door at UCLA and Virginia Tech. The latter of which has multiple ties (see: rumors) to SEC schools, but one in particular will be the name heard most.
Shane Beamer.
Virginia Tech coaching legend Frank Beamer’s son, Shane, addressed his current focus on Sunday evening.
“I think the week of the Virginia Tech game I told everyone how I feel about South Carolina and my love for this place,” Beamer said during a Sunday teleconference. “That’s where my focus is right now, getting our football team better because I don’t like where we are right now, and that’s my responsibility.”
Brad Crawford of CBS Sports also said he spoke to a source close to the situation and added, “He isn’t going back there unless Gamecock fans turn on him, which could happen.”
He also noted that Beamer still believes he can win an SEC championship at South Carolina.
Regardless of his initial downplaying, Beamer has the second best odds to take the job according to BetOnline.ag.
