METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints didn’t appear to see much progress regarding on-field participation on Thursday. The Saints will travel in the evening to Seattle to practice on Friday in the Pacific Northwest ahead of their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Here are the players that were not spotted during the portion of Thursday’s practice that was open to the media:
WR Trey Palmer (Hamstring)
T Taliese Fuaga (Knee/Back)
OL Dillon Radunz (Toe)
DE Chase Young (Calf)
Young still being out on Thursday is a pretty clear indication that his availability for Sunday’s Week 3 matchup is in jeopardy. If he were to miss the game, it would be his third consecutive game out after suffering his calf injury in practice to start the Week 1 slate. Young would need to be back by next week in order to make the lack of Injured Reserve appointment clearer on its surface, though some teams don’t like to use up their returnable slots early in the season. Ideally, he’s back and ready to go at least for the Buffalo Bills trip next week.
New Orleans currently has one of the league’s lowest pressure percentages. Getting Young back will be a big benefit when it happens.
Offensive lineman Trevor Penning was again present and participating at practice. He expressed optimism on Wednesday while speaking to the media about his progress. Penning was also asked about Kellen Moore making it clear that once healthy, Penning will be the team’s starter at left guard.
“I really appreciate him for that,” Penning said. “It’s good to have someone have your back.”
