Each week during the football season, college football expert Phil Steele joins “After Further Review” with Matt Moscona to preview the biggest games of the weekend. Here is Steele’s preview and prediction for the LSU vs. Ole Miss matchup:
I don’t think the spread comes into factor at all. Basically you’re saying who do you think wins the game. You go back to last year’s game, Ole Miss didn’t trail for a single second. I had LSU in the game and I felt a little fortunate that LSU came out the winner in overtime like they did. I think LSU’s a better team than they were last year and I think Ole Miss is a little weaker team than last year. Defensively, a large edge goes to LSU. I’ve been really impressed with the defense this year. I think offensively, though, I’m going to give the edge to Ole Miss. Trinidad Chambliss has been an upgrade over Austin Simmons. The way Simmons started the year throwing interceptions, Chambliss hasn’t and he’s shown the mobility. The home team has absolutely dominated this series, going 10-1 against the spread. I find it a tough one to call. Now, prior to hopping on with you today, Matt, we had an off the (air) conversation and you’re extremely confident in LSU and I remember in the opener when LSU played Clemson, you loved the under. So, I’d like to stick with what Matt’s got on this one.
I like a money line play on LSU along with the under. Until oddsmakers adjust to how good this LSU defense is, I’ll keep betting on Blake Baker’s crew.
