BUFFALO, N.Y. – The New Orleans Saints struggled on special teams against the Seattle Seahawks last week, so ahead of this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, they added some help with a familiar face via game day elevations.
The Saints announced Saturday afternoon that they will elevate linebacker Nephi Sewell and defensive end Fadil Diggs.
Sewell is one of the few remaining special team contributors from last year’s roster. The unit has seen substantial turnover both in coaching and on-field personnel. Sewell will join safeties Jordan Howden and Ugo Amadi along with long snapper Zach Wood in trying to revitalize the important phase of the game.
Diggs will continue to help New Orleans by providing the numbers it needs at edge rusher with defensive end Chase Young still sidelined with a calf injury.
This is Diggs’s third and final gameday elevation (he was added to the active roster via a signing in Week 1). That means he’ll have to be on the 53-man roster in future weeks in order for him to take the field again this season.
The Saints (0-3) and Bills (3-0) will square off at Noon CT Sunday from Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
