METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints are staying home for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday afternoon, Saints owner Gayle Benson signed a new lease extension with the Caesars’ Superdome to keep the Saints in the historic stadium.
Initial reporting from NOLA.com’s Jeff Duncan suggests that the lease would remain through the 2035 season at minimum. After that, the team would have the option to renew in five-year spans through 2055.

The negotiations appeared to get contentious at one point with details beginning to go public and pressure mounting. The back and forth may have cost New Orleans a chance to submit a bid to host the 2031 Super Bowl.
However, Benson said that she would be in the office of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to make their argument to submit despite missing the initial deadline.
“I have been in constant contact with Commissioner Goodell as the Super Bowl committee deadline has passed,” she said. “I explained to him when I was there last week, or the week before last, that we would in fact be back in his office making our best case to host another Super Bowl in the very near future.”
If the city cannot submit a bid for 2031, it will have to wait until 2038 for another shot at hosting the Big Game.
While that hangs in limbo, the Superdome will also serve as the hosting stadium for the 2028 College Football National Championship.
But beyond what the stadium could host one every few years, the most important factor for many in the Gulf Coast region is that weekly during the NFL season, the Saints’ home is cemented for many, many years.
Getting this far took nearly a decade of negotiations, and the signing date is finally in the books. The next step in finalizing the agreement between the Saints and the state will be the league’s approval.
