After week 5, we have a better idea of where each program is. Alabama is proving to everyone that they aren’t dead, and might be Georgia’s kryptonite. The Aggies continue to roll and impress, and Auburn has struggled to get a win. LSU got hard launched into the bye week with a devastating loss to Ole Miss.
It’s a pretty slow week in the SEC, but there is no shortage of storylines to watch.
Bama, you’re next
This is a series Alabama has dominated for decades, but it doesn’t feel so one-sided this season. Last year, Vandy stunned No. 1 Alabama in Nashville. Since then, Diego Pavia and the Commodores have been one of the SEC’s biggest Cinderella stories. Pavia plays with a constant chip on his shoulder, and the doubt only seems to fuel him.
The question now: was last year’s upset just lightning in a bottle? Vanderbilt enters Tuscaloosa undefeated, with two wins already as an underdog. Can Pavia and Vandy pull it off again on the road? Or is Alabama, after its early stumble against Florida State, finally shaking all the way back?
Bulldogs hungry, Aggies rolling, College Station on edge
Since the Aggies joined the SEC, the series sits at 7–6 in A&M’s favor which is about as even as it gets. While the Aggies like to think everyone is their rival, the Bulldogs aren’t exactly losing sleep over them. Especially not this year.
Since joining the SEC, the Aggies only lead State 7–6. Despite all the resources Texas A&M has, the reality is that State has been right there with them every step of the way. When people wonder why I don’t fear A&M week, it’s because history shows we shouldn’t. https://t.co/aguEzIoNvY

Jeff Lebby and Blake Shapen have Mississippi State off to a strong 4–1 start, their only loss being in overtime vs. Tennessee. Yes, the Aggies are rolling and yes, this one is in College Station. However, Mississippi State is hunting for a statement win, and what bigger statement could there be than knocking off No. 6 A&M on the road? And how on brand for the Aggies would this be to lose to an unranked team at home after such a strong start.
