NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Saints’ defense just took another major hit. After not being able to get defensive end Chase Young on the field in the first five weeks of the season, the team now will have to finish its Week 5 matchup with the New York Giants without their other offseason big-ticket player.
During the second defensive series of the game, Saints safety Justin Reid was ruled out with a concussion.
Replacing him is third-year safety Jordan Howden, who just got back to full health himself a few weeks ago. Rookie safety Jonas Sanker is also still in, playing the tandem role at the position.
So far this season, Pro Football Focus has credited Reid with seven receptions allowed on nine targets for 69 receiving yards and one touchdown catch surrendered. The Saints’ defense has struggled early against the Giants and losing Reid won’t help.
